It’s a brand new year, and a great time to refresh and revamp the look of your home. Interior design trends are constantly changing, but how do you know what’s hot and what’s not for 2016 interior design trends in Calgary? Some of you may have attended the January Home Expo in Calgary. For those who haven’t, check out our list of top interior design trends for the coming year to get in the know.
Patterns are in
In recent years, clean, solid colors have been popular in the interior finishing materials as well as the interior decorating aspect. In 2016, we’re going to be looking at interior design trends of patterns and textures, including patterns in bed sheets and blankets. Quilts, embroidery, and even bedazzling will be more popular in interior design this year.
Sustainability will be at the forefront
People have been trying to be more ecofriendly for some time, now, but up until recently, style and sustainability have seemed mutually exclusive. 2016 interior design trends will show even more interest from environmentally sustainable products to creatively repurposing/refurbishing existing household items. Designers will be demonstrating more than ever that sustainability can be cost-effective while still achieving a new look.
Relax: don’t be so busy
Although patterns will become popular for interior design this year, colours that are also trending this year will be much more muted, clean, and calming. Look for pastels, light colours, and whites to create a simple, clean, and open look this year. Rooms can quickly become too heavy or busy with lots of dark colours and patterns, but the combination of pastels and lighter colours with more texturized fabric and furniture will provide just the right balance for your room.
Less is more
Particularly when it comes to furnishings, 2016 interior design trends will move towards lighter, cleaner furnishings with less layering and sharper, crisp lines. There will be fewer heavier, dark furnishings and a more modern, simple and clean approach.
Darker metallic
Everyone loved stainless steel for a while, and 2016 kitchens will still feature stainless steel appliances. But for accents, modern art, decorations, and furniture, you’ll be seeing a lot more black metal, like iron or blackened steel. As an accent colour black will always bring any room together and pairs well with the simple, clean interior design trends of 2016 without being too flashy or garish.
